Calling all who care about preserving our national historical parks and legacy!
We, the people, rejoice that the prayers and protests to preserve The Penn Statue, a national symbol of religious freedom, were successful. The Biden Administration’s original plan to remove the William Penn statue and other artifacts about his legacy, which is located in Welcome Park, Philadelphia, was canceled and the statue will remain.
We saw the impact of people who rose up because they know and cherish our nation’s birthplace and founding freedoms. We must continue to remain vigilant against any ongoing strategies to destroy the foundations of our nation’s identity. We must protect and preserve the precious righteous roots in Philadelphia, named by Penn to be the city of brotherly love.
There is evidence that The Biden Administration has additional “development” plans to remove Pennsbury Manor, Penn’s home and headquarters, and other historical artifacts. Feel free to use my statement below or form your own as you protest this atrocity.
“I strongly oppose the removal of the William Penn statue in Welcome Park, or any other park in Philadelphia, the birthplace of America. Removing Penn’s statue is an attempt to erase Pennsylvania’s history of peaceful coexistence between Penn and his colonists and the Native Lenape tribes, who were the first people of the land. Penn honored and befriended the Lenape people, which is evident in the peace treaty he wrote in order to preserve good faith and good will with them. Even though Penn received the land grant from King Charles II, he paid the tribal chiefs for the land, honoring them and recognizing their right to the land. When the King said Penn needed an army to protect him from the native Americans, he rejected that idea and instead said, “Let’s see what love will do.” Penn also developed and planned the city of Philadelphia and founded what became the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. His ship, “Welcome,” brought persecuted people of all faiths to Philadelphia, the city he named for brotherly love. The removal of the Penn statue would be an attack on the history of the Keystone State and the man who founded its government. Penn pioneered a new model of government built upon diplomacy and democracy rather than the tyrannical rulership he had experienced in Europe. Thomas Jefferson, signer of the US Constitution, called William Penn "The greatest lawgiver the world has produced." I urge you to protect our shared heritage of democracy, religious freedom and the fair treatment of all individuals by not removing this historical monument or any other Penn related historical buildings or artifacts.”
